My A6's transmission sometimes refuses to go into gear - really scared
#1

So this just happened to me for the second time in a week and I'm genuinely starting to panic. I have a 2014 A6 2.0 TDI with the multitronic CVT, and twice now when I've started the car, I've shifted into drive and nothing happened. The gear selector moves into position, the dashboard shows D, but the car just doesn't move, it's like the transmission hasn't actually engaged at all. The first time it happened I panicked, shifted back to park, turned the car off, waited a minute, and when I restarted it everything was fine and it drove normally. I thought it was just a one-off glitch, but it happened again this morning and now I'm really worried. Once the car is moving, the transmission works perfectly, no slipping, no rough shifts, no weird noises, it's just this intermittent refusal to engage when I first start it. I've been doing some research and I'm seeing all sorts of possibilities, low fluid, failing oil pump, valve body issues, torque converter problems, and honestly I'm terrified that my transmission is about to fail completely. I found a site called auditransmissionrepair.ae that seems to have detailed information about CVT issues, and I'm starting to think I need to get this sorted urgently before I get stranded somewhere. Has anyone else experienced this kind of intermittent engagement failure with their multitronic CVT, and what was the cause and fix? I'm trying to brace myself for the worst but I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this and can tell me what I'm likely looking at in terms of diagnosis and cost. I need my car for work and I can't afford to be without it for weeks.
