Steering feels loose and wanders on the highway, getting nervous -

Lately my Wrangler feels like it's drifting slightly and I have to keep making small corrections on the highway which is exhausting on longer drives. There's also a bit of play in the steering wheel before the car actually responds, maybe an inch or so, and it definitely wasn't like this a year ago. I checked the power steering fluid and it's fine, tires are properly inflated, so I'm guessing it's something in the steering box or the tie rods. What worries me is that a couple of generic garages I called just said bring it in and we'll see, which isn't reassuring when steering is involved. I found mention of a
reliable Jeep steering repair in Musaffah and I'm leaning towards going that route since they apparently work on Jeeps specifically, but I wanted to hear from anyone who's had steering work done. Did they replace the whole steering box or just the worn ends? And how do you know when it's a death wobble situation versus just normal wear? I'd rather fix this properly than keep white knuckling it every time I merge.
